The handling of this Scooter Libby situation is another personification of the manner in which this government has been operating. The government represents the body of the people in America, and as such, it has the responsibility to operate in a manner that benefits the majority, not the elite few.
The pardon or commuting of Scooter Libby, who committed crimes, yes, they were crimes, sends the message that it is perfectly okay to cheat, lie about yourself, lie about others, and cover your tracks. What’s more, there is no or little retribution for these acts of dishonesty. What makes it more incredulous is that this lying, cheating, and deceitful behavior is not only condoned at the highest office in this country, but this adharmic (unethical, immoral) behavior is actually rewarded by the most powerful leader in the world.
As a self-proclaimed Christian, you would expect this President to live and rule according to the wisdom of the Christ. Unfortunately this has not been the case. This is not a judgment; it is an observation of the actions of this country’s leaders for nearly 8 years.
Rule without consciousness and you are left with a legacy of burden. Buddha also showed us ways to live a more fulfilling, rewarding life. He gave us eight principles of conduct that have been, through ignorance, mainly ignored by the administration. One of these is called Samyak Sankalpa, which means that our actions should reflect a proper intention for the good of all. Samyak Vak means we should be honest and truthful.
As aspirants on the spiritual path, we understand that we have individual karma that we will experience at some point in time. When this karma is interfered with, it creates more repercussions for the individual, and effects the collective karma of the groups to which we belong, such as our country.
Where are we going? What are we doing? This Scooter Libby matter, the Gonzales fiasco, the war in Iraq are “topics” that prevent us from understanding the real “issue” here.
The issue is we need a leader who has a true sense of values in his heart, and not just in his mind. We need a leader who has a developed sense of insight and intuition. We need a leader who has control of his ego and an awareness of satchitananda--existence, consciousness, bliss absolute. We need a leader who is a personification of honesty, humility, and honor.
